Moving companies are a vital part of your move. Here are valuable tips on how you can find and settle for one that is perfect for your move.
Moving companies are a vital part of your move. Here are valuable tips on how you can find and settle for one that is perfect for your move.
Get to the basics: understand the nature of your move
There are times when people end up making wrong decisions in selecting moving companies since they didn’t understand the nature of their move. Ask yourself if you a moving office, moving a house, moving a piano or what? If you are moving house as well as your piano or car, you need to contact moving companies who are also piano movers. The same case will apply if you are moving your car. Don’t settle for a moving company only to come and say they don’t move piano on the last minute!
How reliable is the reliable company?
Let’s agree on one thing: there is no moving company that will say they are not so reliable but can still move you! But there are moving scams and duped clients out there. Don’t be a victim. Take time to check the track record of each moving company. Check their credibility with the Better Business Bureau and if they are members of such associations like American Moving and Storage Association as well as The Household Good Forwarders Association of America. This way, it will be easier to get your problems solved if they arise.
Start with a click
With a click of a button, you can get unlimited information on moving companies offering various moving services like moving truck rental etc on the internet. Internet is a great place to start your search for a moving company but you should take second opinions before settling on one. Ask for free moving quotes so you can compare.
Cheap can be expensive
Don’t let cheap quotes lure you to settling for a moving company. The last thing you will like to hear from a moving company is ‘sorry’. Some movers charge a little more but they have excellent moving services.

Movers services—tips on some of the moving services offered by various moving companies and how you can have a stress free move by knowing details of each.
Self moving
Self moving is where you do all the packing and unloading of your stuff and all a moving company does is driving your stuff to the new location. This type of moving service is gaining popularity since it saves your money and allows you the freedom to pack your stuff the way it feels right for you. A mover will bring their moving trucks or boxes at your house and let you do all the packing and call them when you are done.
Piano moving
Unlike the furniture in your house that can be moved easily, a piano needs care and extra efforts. Not all movers will be willing to move your piano and if you plan to move one, always seek services from qualified piano movers who have the right equipment and manpower to move your piano.
Car moving
Just like piano moving, car moving also needs special kind of a move. A car cannot be put among your normal household stuff. Car moving needs special moving services of car moving companies that that have the experience need for the service and have understood the implications of misfortunes in the process of moving. If you are embarking on a long distance move is advisable to seek moving services of a car mover many weeks in advance to avoid a last moment disappointment.
Free moving quotes and estimates
This is a vital movers’ service you should always ask for. A reliable moving company will offer you this service free of cost and will even come to your house to make a survey to determine how much the move will approximately cost you. Avoid movers who set the estimates based of weight since it’s hard to know the weight of your stuff unless it’s really weighed and that can only be established during the move.

State to state movers should be qualified and reliable for any move. Here are some tips on how you should go about hiring a moving company for your interstate move.
Moving from one state to another is both taxing and expensive at the same time. This type of move requires an experienced state to state mover who understands all that is required. Below are some tips that can help you in the process of hiring these movers.
• Go with a moving company with a clean track record. Research various state to state movers and make sure they have never been involved in moving scams and have a good standing with the Better Business Bureau.
• Call the state to state movers and ask as many questions as you can to be clear on what they offer and for how much.
• Make sure you are dealing with the real state to state mover and not a broker. If it’s a broker, then insist on speaking to the actual mover and discuss the move with him or her.
• Never sign the moving contract until you understand all that it contains. Some words might be very binding and you may end up paying more for moving services you don’t require.
• Ask for moving quotes but let the quotes be based on weight and not volume. Weights are exact but with volumes you might end up paying for the empty spaces left in the moving truck after you load your stuff.
• Ask for moving insurance but let it be based on weight preferably and not value.
• Don’t accept state to state movers who will only take cash or insists on down payments before they can start the job.
• Trusted moving companies advise that clients should not pay for the move until the move is complete and moving trucks are unloaded at the new place.
• Lastly, you should hire a state to state mover only when you are convinced of their credentials and are sure you will get a high quality moving service from them.

Moving vans may prove hard to drive considering the size and the weight you’re moving. Here are tips on how to drive the moving van from the movers.
1. Being a self mover and renting a moving van can save you a lot of money at the end of the day. However, if the move is not well planned to you drive the moving van without adhering to a few rules, you might get entangled in a financial mess and legal handles costlier than opting for a full service mover.
2. Moving trucks are not like your personal cars. They are larger and their operations may be different. By operations I mean gear systems and placement of various switches on the ‘switch board’.
3. So, the first thing you do when you get your moving van from the moving company is to familiarize yourself with the van. Adjust the seat to fit your comfort, adjust the mirrors and know where the location of vital controls like turning indicators switches, wipers, horns etc are. After this, you should take your van for a test drive to have a general feel of it.
4. When you hit the road, you should remember that moving vans are bigger than cars and so while turning, you should take wider turns. And should I remind you that you need to obey ALL traffic rules? Common sense.
5. Parkways can save you some distance but you should avoid them. Moving trucks and moving vans are not allowed on parkways and you might be fined heavily or get stuck on low height parkways. Care should be taken when passing under bridges to avoid hitting low height bridges.
6. Don’t over speed. This can cause accidents or may be problematic while stopping the moving van. Don’t back up unless there is enough space for that.
7. Always have some refreshments in the van especially if you are a state to state mover. If you must rest for the night, book hotels in advance. In fact, you should include this in your moving checklist.
8. Lastly, and not the least, keep checking the gas level to avoid getting stuck in the middle of nowhere with a gasless powerful moving van!

Getting ready:
Moving office needs to be planned early. Give yourself at least three months to plan for the move. Prepare a detailed moving checklist and stick to it, making changes where necessary. Since you don’t engage in your usual money making ventures while moving, it’s advisable to move in the season when your business is low.
You should familiarize yourself with the new place and get a floor plan for your new office. The floor plan will help you know where the furniture will be placed and where each staff member’s desk will be situated. You should also choose a moving company to move you in advance. If you are moving far, get moving services from state to state movers.
The staff
Let all staff members know about the move. They should be prepared psychologically and those who, for some reasons may not be willing to move, should be helped accordingly. The staff members should start packing their personal belongings in separate boxes and help in packing official documents in well labeled boxes.
The packing
Office movers recommend that personal belonging be packed separately and office stuff be packed in separately. Avoid packing in very large boxes since this may make it hard to load them into the moving trucks or moving vans.
Small items like paper clips and other smaller stationery should be packed in well labeled envelopes. Liquid stationery should be well sealed before packing and those which are wired should be folded and fastened well. Books should be packed in hard cartons and the cartons should be well labeled.
Special care should be taken when packing and handling classified documents. These documents should be handled with supervision from senior management and should be locked away after packing.
Miscellaneous
Never forget to inform your clients or customers that you are moving. You should also get the right moving insurance cover for your move.

Pianos are heavy and need extra skills to move them. Whether you are moving the piano across the room or moving it to another state where you need moving services of state to state movers, proper planning is necessary for the piano move. Some piano movers unfortunately charge more for piano moving sighting the weight involved. It’s true that a spinet or console weighs around three hundred to five hundred pounds and this may go to even a thousand pounds for uprights. Grand pianos range from about five hundred to a thousand pounds, with a concert grand hitting thirteen hundred pounds. Some moving companies will charge you heavily saying they will need to put in more men for the job. The truth of the matter here is three experienced guys can move the piano. What you need is not a football team comprising of heavily muscled men but proper skills and the right equipment!
1. The move
As said above, you need the right equipments and skills to move a piano. The first thing you need to do is to select the right location and get proper dimensions. Don’t move your piano until you make sure that the lid is lowered and locked. There should be one person at the end of the piano if you are moving an upright. If you are moving a grand piano, get three guys, one near each leg and get as much weight off the casters so that it slides with ease. Be sure there are no obstacles on the way and your piano will be moved easily.
2. Services
No matter how confident you are that you can easily move your piano, it’s highly recommended that you get moving services from a qualified piano mover. These tips will help you know what you are paying for but not to make you shun the services of a good piano mover for your piano move.

Moving is not a one person decision, but a family affair. For that reason, the first thing you do as the decision maker should be to bring your entire family together and inform them of the intended move. For sure kids might be excited to have the moving trucks rumbling on the homestead but they surely suffer a shock for the change. It is therefore advisable to tell when the move will take place and the reason why you are moving.
A get together with friends
If possible, a few days before the move, have a get-together for your kids and their friends. A picnic will be a great idea also. Let them talk about their friendships and get used to the fact that they will be parting ways. In this way, the shocking of relocating and leaving their friends will be minimal.
The toy story
Kids may have a container full of toys! But it may be impossible to carry all those to the new location. Kids get so used to some of their toys that telling them to leave those toys may hurt them. You should therefore sit down with your kids and explain to them that movers may have excellent moving services but may not be able to take all their stuff to the new place. Let them pick a few toys that must go and give the rest to their friends or give them for garage sale
School check out
And finally, before the moving vans from those moving companies descend to carry your stuff away, you should take time to clear your kids from their current school. Let them interact with their teachers and especially their favorite teachers. If there are transfer documents to be taken for the office, get them before they get into difficulties enrolling to their new school.
